Finally decide I want the new Macbook

My query is, do we think, purely on a monetary basis only, that the 2.4Ghz model us worth the extra '£s' over the 20.Ghz.

Like I say this question is purely based on the monetary side of things not what it would be used for which, purely for interest sake would be Internet and streaming to ATV, also hard drive size doe'snt matter as I have 1TB time capsule

thanks
Mark

for what you describe, no. If your white macbook has been powerful enough, then the 2.0 aluminium one will be too.

although .4 is in theory a 20% increase in speed over the 2.0, so might be more futureproofed. But then are you really going to be using it for years to come? If not then get the cheaper one.

not a scientific answer....but here goes.........

in theory the processor is 20% faster

Taking the price of the 2.0GHz and adding 20% comes up £11 short of the actual price of the 2.4GHz,
so I guess you could say that a back-lit keyboard and an extra 90GB of HDD space for £11 is a bit of a bargain!

Thanks Apple !!!
(slight sarcasm...before anyone puts any serious analysis to my comments:rotfl:)

Thanks Richard - A much more sensible answer:smashin:

Thanks to for the above and to Stuart as well.

I'm now leaning towards the 2.4Ghz as I'm thinking that, in 1 years time (when I expect to upgrade again) the the depreciation will be less on the 2.4 over the 2.0

I took the plunge and bought a 2.4GHz model over the weekend :rotfl:

Was lucky enough to sell on my "old" 2.16GHz white one, but the price of apple branded RAM was extorionate (£160 in store!!), so I'm going to take a risk and go for some 3rd party Crucial RAM (don't know if you're away of this ongoing issue with *some* new aluminium Macbooks and *some* 3rd party RAM)

It IS lovely and shiny though.. very sexy

The crucial memory has been fine for me, for the last 3-4 months!

No

People would be surprised how little processing power they actually need

You are essentially paying for 400hz (correct acronym?) which in the grand scheme of things means very little. So you are left with a backlit keyboard. Whoop

And a bigger hard disk. Although I am not disagreeing with you!

Thanks to everyone on this thread, I bought a second hand 2.4 Ghz model this morning for £820 delivered.

So will soon try to sell my 2.1ghx white macbook

Any recomendations on what memory 4GB memory to buy for the new one and, is the 2GB memory worth anything on these forums

Thanks
Mark

The new aluminium Macbooks only accept DDR3 memory

Up to now notebooks have been using ddr2. Different number of pins. Use the Crucial online checker if in doubt
