I want to access XBox Live over a wireless connection to a router/modem, but I've been told that this type of connection may suffer from more lag than a direct CAT5 cable connection to the router.

If this is true, will it be noticeable? I don't fancy forking out for all the wireless kit to find the games unplayable due to lag. Neither do I fancy laying long lengths of cable up and down the stairs to connect my XBox to my PC/ADSL box.

There shouldn't be any problem. Most reviews I have read of wireless equipment had no lag issues.

The current limit of most wireless connections is 10megabits/sec, your ADSL will go to a maximum of 2megabits, usually 512Kilobits. There is plenty of room there :)

Not sure yet Jag. I like the SpeedTouch 570 as it's a one box solution. Dabs are doing an Actiontec modem and wireless router for £135 - if this does the job then that's a worthwhile saving over the 570. Others have recommended Netgear and Asus.

Re. speed, I do agree with the guys who replied to my original question. It just didn't sound right that the link should be slower over wireless. Surely if there's any delay anywhere in the system, it will be on the long links, perhaps via satellite, between the players, not in the short links between XBox and modem.
