I have never given this much thought, but 'er in doors' made a good point today.

You turn up with a polling card that has a reference specific to you that is then transferred to a counter foil with a unique number on that matches the ballet paper given you.

Your vote can clearly be traced back to you, but I thought it was supposed to be anonymous...is this not the case then?

I hadn't really thought about it to be honest. But do you think it makes any difference?

Maybe I'm being naive but what can they do with that info? I'd be quite happy to tell anyone what I voted. And they certainly aren't using it to canvas voters and encourage them to switch....I haven't been canvassed at all around here...not even a handout through the letterbox!!

As far as I know. They have to keep the papers for a certain number of months to detect fraud and other voting crimes if they are suspected, then, after that they are destroyed.

Are MI-5 really going to cross reference those ballot papers to voting cards and keep a database of who voted for whom?

I honestly believe that who you vote for is "kept on file" some where and if you vote for one of the more extreme parties (national front?) your details are passed onto one of the security agencys (MI5 etc).
I know it sounds like a bit of a conspiracy theory but that's my view anyway.
    Cheers,

No it's not, well not here anyway.

Your ballot papers are marked with your electoral register number when you get it at the polling station. The data is then kept and catalogued.

In my eyes one party is as bad as the other.

It doesnt matter who gets in power we will be shafted wherever we go and whatever we do!!

Our employer pays tax on profits, we get paid and we get taxed, we spend the money and we are taxed, we get taxed on our savings, we are taxed for living in our houses......and on and on and on!!!!!

Who is going to change that??? Answer... no one!!! :thumbsdow

What are the governments there for... to line their own filthy pockets. Large salaries, nice pads, LARGE expenses.....

I could rant on but I wont! :D

But surely you would much rather get shafted by that nice Mr Blair as opposed to the nasty Mr Howard :)

I couldn't have put it better myself Mason. This is the first time in about 25 years that I haven't bothered to vote. I honestly didn't know who to vote for and I agree with you 100% that MP's these days seem to just feather their own nests while they are in parliament. They vote themselves huge pay rises and have "cast iron" pensions while the rest of us get taxed then taxed again then shafted! I suspect a lot of them leave parliament as millionaires and a few of the reigning prime ministers chums even get a nice peerage!
I also could go on and on as I have had a "new breed" of tax inspector on my case for nearly 2 years now and I'm well and truly ****** off with it.
These guys hound small business men and women and basically bully them for several months/years until they crack and "pay them off"! I'm convinced these aggressive inspections have been sanctioned from the top to get more cash into labours coffers.
I have even heard that these people are on bonus for gods sake ........ I better stop before I blow a gasket!
I have thrown my rose tinted glasses in the bin

Have to admit that I had a tough decision deciding who to vote for. Every party wanted to hang me out to dry. :)

I think anyone who voted for the main parties voted for an elected dictatorship we no longer live in a democracy.
