I've never found mine over-bright. I love them. I wonder if it would change if I altered my amp though.

Don't get me wrong, I think mine are excellent, it was said with my tongue firmly in my cheek. It's just that they seem to polarise opinion on AVForums, perhaps more than any other speaker brand.

Try experimenting with speaker cable .Using mine bi- amped with Russ Andrews cable to my av 300 sounds less bright with great bass!

I hope not, as I've just about decided on Mordaunt Short Architect stuff for my "sneaky speaker" needs, and if I hear rave reviews for the MA speakers, it could get costly !

I think my dad's ceiling speakers are MA. They sound reasonable. He is only driving them with a really small Denon all in one.

My old S6's sounded a little bright but I think this was mainly due to poorly paired components/cables. I was using a Yamaha AX1 with a digital connection comming from my pioneer dvd player which caused to to sound detailed but rather hard, that combined with Chord carnival Silver plus made them sound brighter than they should be.

That was a few years ago and my GR20's and much more laid back especailly bi-amped with atlas cable. They are stil detailed but dont have the hard edge that the S6 had.

I think the bright characteristic is more something that was more noticable with the pervious models, also some people just prefer a brighter sound. I did hear that as you get older people start to prefer a slightly brighter sound, its related to how our hearing changes over the years.

Very true regarding hearing degradation with age. Mine drops off at around 12KHz, but my 9yo son can hear well above 18KHz.

I took a look at the frequency response of the GR10 against the PMC GB1 (which I do like the look of I have to admit) and the MA seem to be much smoother in the response curve. See the attachment. As a nod to the subjectivists, I know specs aren't everything, but on paper the PMC GB1 look a bit lumpy in their response. Graphs are from Soundstage's web site btw.
