I don't know if it's just me but I've really noticed of late that more ofen than not the response time on this site is becoming dire. As I type it's ok again but earlier this evening it was dreadfull. Sometimes pages are just timing out completely.

    Anyone else noticed this ?

C'mon AVforums bout time you upgraded those ZX Spectrums underpinning this forum :lease:

For the last 2 hours the site has been unobtainable for me.

Looking at a thread in the forum feedback section it may be a question of money and people not clicking advertising banners to generate revenue.

its also likely that the volume of traffic is too great and the database is struggling.

C'mon mods any views from you guys ? - is it down to hardware or do you need to tune the database engine ?

If it purely cost reasons then fair enough - if the sponsers aren't getting enough hits I suppose they are unlikely to want to fund hardware paurchases.

Bit of a catch 22 - faster response, more users, more hits on sponsers sites, more revenue.....

To be fair today seems much better though guys....don't know if you've wound the elastic band a bit tighter

If you have a look in the forum feedback section at the bottom of the main forum page, there will be at least one thread in there were Stuart has made comments :)

    To quote Stuart

"There is an issue with the forums speed at the moment and I am planning to move to 2 servers as soon as possible.

I'm sorry about the speed problems and please believe me when I say that I'm doing my upmost to arrange a better service for you all.
In the mean time all I ask in return is that you all allow banners to be seen (not pop-ups - we don't have them) and look at the banners and click them if they are of interest. If Lee is doing his job properly (and he's a good salesman) then he'll be selling banners which *are* of interest to you because he'll be approaching advertisers who have the most relevant products and services"

It does seem a problem Sean - Ultimately the success of web-sites depends on accetable page load times. If they become unuseable people will start drifting away...

I hope this isn't the case as this photography section has really taken off of late.
