Is this possible :- HCPC->Power Amp->Speakers?

I want to use a PC as a DVD & CD player and connect it directly to a power amp and to some speakers.

I'd also like Prologic II decoding for outputting freeview to 5.1?

Basically, I want to use the PC as a CD & DVD transport and Dolby Digital/DTS/Prologic II processor

Is this possible?

What hardware would I need?

Yes that is possible, in fact that is exactly how I have mine set up.

The only hardware that you need - apart from the obvious - is a decent soundcard. I use an M-Audio Revolution 7.1, it doesn't support ProLogic2 but does have rather good SRS circle surround, which works a treat with Freeview.

The Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 and DTS would be handled by whatever software DVD player you decide to get. Of the current crop I would recommend WinDVD5.

One word of caution though, the PC can produce a loud 'pop' when powering on/off so remember to switch your power amp off before doing this.

Good Luck
