Is this normal for DVDRs ?

I have just got my second DVDR with 160g hard drive. Its excellent ... except that on playback, every few minutes, it freezes looses sound for a couple of seconds, then starts again. It is sooooo annoying. The thing is, my last DVDR was a Philips - and I got rid of it for the same reason. Do all DVDRs do this - or is it just Philips ??

I have a Liteon and my parents have a Thompson and I havent seen any similar problems on either of them.
