I was looking to buy a 42" plasma so I did the usual,
went to currys, comet, etc. walked out confused.

So I read these forums and need some advice.

I have NTL (samsung box), a cheap (scart) DVD and a BOSE dolby sourond system.

Will this work/be enough to get me going?

    AVForums Panasonic TH-42PWD7 Plasma Screen
    (TH-42PWD7BK) - TH-42PWD7BK Charcoal Finish
    (OPB2B) - Charcoal Stand
    (QUINTRO) - Quintro+ RGB Switch Box +£83.66
(JS-RGB-VGA) - RGB to VGA JS Converter Box +£110.15

    Total cost 1707.88

This will do the job very nicely.......and then the bug bites and you spend more money chasing the perfect picture.....but I digress. Good screen, good retailer what are you waiting for?? :smashin:

tis great but you'll soon be after a component output dvd so maybe just as well to add a component input board to the order if they have them as getting the boards individually afterwards never seems to be easy...and if you're spending that amount anyway another £150 or whatever isn't going to make much difference.

I got my PWD7 from AV a few weeks ago and have been having discussion about going on to component. Ref thread `How do you watch DVD's on your Panny PW6 / PW7?` (thanks for advice mep).

I have been quoted £100.04 for BNC component board and 1m Van Damme RCA-BMC cable from AV, so you with still get a good discount from them if you buy add ons later.

Adamski. I would look at how many things you will want to connect via scart, at the moment I only have Freeview PVR and DVD palyer. If I go over to component the Quintro+ box basically becomes redundant.

I got the 3 year warranty and would consider that a worth while extra for peace of mind (and transfersable should I sell screen).

Chris, the board is £66.49 and the cable is £33.55, from AV-Sales.

mep, the board number is TY-42TM6AB. I think if I remember correctly, from their pic, it is a 1 slot board.
