Is this a good idea?

I was playing with my setup last night and switching between the decoding on the DV89 and my Yamaha RXV595. I couldn't tell the difference between the two!

Now my system is beng gradually upgraded (who's isn't) - I've got the source and display sorted so the next area is amp and speakers.

That got me thinking, could I hook up 3 active speakers across the front driven from the DVD player and the two backs driven by the amp?

I guess the querstion I'm asking is how good are the internal decoders in the Arcam DV 89?

How much would I have to spend to get equivelant performance from an AV amp?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Is there a volume control then from the dvd?

Also, you'd only be able to hear the dvd via the speakers and nothing else.

    Or have I missed something?

Otherwise I know exactly what you mean.

I have active speakers all round. I use the 5.1 output from my DV27a via the 5.1 input on the amp to do DVD/CD. The amp still does the Sky+ input.

Overall the 27a sounds miles better on DD/DTS DVD/CD than the AVR200 I currently use.
