The package also includes a Vogels ceiling mount too, a not inexpensive item, hence the deal looks good value to me and the H30a is a very well liked machine.

Just one point, for this money you can get hidef capable projectors (but without the screen/ceiling mount) - if hidef is unimportant to you then this is not a bad deal by the looks of it...PJ

Just be aware that this projector is lower definition than UK PAL television and DVDs.

This projector has 480 lines of vertical resolution. That is the same as American television. UK television & DVDs have 576 lines, so the projector will scale the picture down, thus losing definition. Many newer projectors have 720 lines, which makes them capable of displaying high definition TV (which will be launched on Sky early next year).

You should still get a good picture watching UK tv and dvds on a 480 line projector, but it won't be as good as if you have 576 or 720 lines.

In theory yes but in practice I bet you wouldn't notice any difference from normal viewing distances.
The H30a throws a pretty impressive picture and it's processing capability is also very good.

I can see an obvious difference between NTSC and PAL resolution (unless a good scaler is used), but then I work in broadcast TV.

Yes I'm sure there would be but in reality and IMHO between 480 & 576 there simply isn't.

Fair enough but you have cleverly ignored the 720p discussed earlier which was my only point!

Oops! yes I did overlook it, but having said that a while ago we compared my friends Panny Ae500 which I believe was 720p to my H30 having set them both up with DVE, we both agreed that from normal viewing distances and when fed with DVD and Sky sources the H30 picture looked much better overall.
Gaming though was a different story with the Panny much better due to it's higher resoulution.
That was only our opinion of course and I appreciate that the AE500 is now a little long in the tooth but it is 720p.
I suppose what I'm really saying is the car with the biggest engine isn't always the fastest

did you try viewing 720p on them? it really makes a huge difference. i watch some tv shows from usa and the ones in hidef make for a much better viewing experience on my z3.5 - it really makes one smile to see hidef!!

when HD comes out next year sky will pick up a lot of new subscribers while we wait for bbc to go hidef.

No I'm afraid we didn't have any hi def material, would have been interesting to see how they both performed though.
Where do you get your USA tv shows from, I wouldn't mind getting hold of something in hi def to try out on the H30, do they run at native 60Hz on the Z3?

There is a thread called new and returning tv shows - have a read of that. Theyre not quite 720p but close. The HR HDTV AC3 ones are good. You can buy some WMVHD clips as well and get movie trailers in hidef!
