Well I've got my PD30 and Toshiba SD-240 which I want to connect via component which leaves the problem of audio so I thought the easiest thing to do would be to buy an AV receiver however I'm not really sure what I'm looking at.

I saw this and wondered if it was a good buy or should I be looking at something else.

    Hi james
You will also need speakers,A better option would be to go for the yamaha av 50 from unbeatable at £170 for speakers and receiver is a cracking price rrp is over £300 and i have heard these seperates which are a good start for your first av system and also make it easy if you want to upgrade at a later stage.
    Cheers Gonzo.

It does look like a good deal but due to the layout of my living room I won't be going for a 5.1 setup, what I'm after is a pair of nice speakers to sit either side of the tv and a decent amp to go with them.

Would it not just be easier to connect the TV and DVD by RGB scart? If you're not wanting Digital surround why not just use the onboard sound?

You won't see much difference (if any) between RGB Scart and Component.

IMO the PD30 gives a much better picture from PS Component to RGB scart. Having briefly looked at the TV manual it does mention about connecting the component up and then running a scart as well to AV4 to get the picture via component and sound via scart - though I have personally never tried this.

If you are only going to use 2 speakers and not intending to go for the full 5.1 (or more) setup at a later date then you may as well pick up a cheaper stereo amp rather than an AVR or if you already own a home hifi why not more it and the speakers to a suitable place and use them?

Pingu did suggest that in my other thread and I will be giving it a try but I wanted to explore my options as it seems like a I have a nice TV and I want to make the most of it.

    Thanks for the advice

As with all hi-tech equipment some people have had problems with the P30 but I have found it to be an exceptionaly good TV and outstanding for DVDs when feed with a prog scan component output. Glad to hear you are also enjoying it.

:suicide: Not read it properly, I thought we were talking PA30/PE30 Plasma. It had been said on here in the past that Tosh DVD player to panny plasma via component wasn't great.
