I've got the Avia disc, and it has a white watermark-type stain.. see pic. Is this disc rot or just plastic discoloration?

    Thanks

Hmmmm I have several discs like that with smear in the plastic, even CD's... but I've not had any problems with DVD Rot... it just seems to be in the plastic itself and not affecting the foil of the disc.

just a note to say I'd keep a eye on the white milkyness though if it seems to spread, then return the disc.

I'll probably make a copy of it (got a PC DVD-R) As long I can fall back onto the DVD-R (if) the original screws up.

I noticed a lot of PC Magazine Disc's both DVD Rom and CD Rom have the same smeary plastic, probably ether cheap production or poor storage of stock media or maybe both... I had a DVD yesterday that has since been sent back to "Play" that had airbubbles in the plastic that were obscuring the laser from reading the disc..

If the cloudiness is like a coffee stain then I think the DVD will be ok.

Both my Hellaiser I and II in the limited boxset is like that. They still play fine. I think it is just the glue showing through that hold the different layers together. Some discs are almost transparent.

The only disc I have had problems is The Terminator and the glue came out from underneath the layers.

I have also had the second disc of Blade II go bad but that was the amaray case cracking the disc in the centre. They are the only ones out of 300 odd discs.

aye, the coffee stain or smear is mostly cosmetic in nature as long as the foil can be read by the laser the disc will play fine, the worst case of Rot I've ever seen was a early 80's CD the foil just flaked off inside the plastic... what is annoying is the film industry is keeping quiet or just plain not doing nothing to resolve issues with glues used during manufacture... maybe they are hoping to make more money by selling you the same disc each time it falls apart... who knows...

Just wash the disc in WARM water and dry, this will cure the problem, I had It on T2 and now is all well. Hope this helps.

Yes, DanAshmoreUK was in the wrong. His post has been deleted and PM already sent. But there was no need to reply abusively.

I know DanAshmoreUK post was of no purpose and only designed to antognise you, which he succeeded in doing, which is why his post has been removed.
