To find out more about BMW 3-wheelers, do a search on 'Isetta BMW'. They weren't the same as the Reliant 3-wheelers: they had the single wheel at the back:

    http://www.microcarmuseum.com/tour/bmwisetta250.html

To meet the requirements of a 'micro car' that you could drive on a bike license, these cars had no reverse gear. This, combined with a front-opening door, meant that you could drive up to a wall, or park it in a garage, and find yourself held prisoner in your own car!!

A company now offers these with a rip-snorting BMW bike engine, and they absolutely fly, in a terrifying sort of way.

That's the Beardmore Kitten: it sports a 3.5 litre Rover V8. It's really nicely engineered, too. The Beardmore brothers are somewhat famous in Morris Minor circles for a couple of other custom cars, including a 2.0l Fiat twincam-powered post office van.
