eg my lovely philips 30pf9975, which unfortunately doesn't have DVI or HDCP.

I imagine whenever they launch HD in this country, that there will be more HD-ready displays without HDCP than those with.

So is it feasible to produce some kind of box like a JS RGB-Svideo type thing that converts HDCP output to component or straight DVI?

There will be such a device, I'm sure, but its manufacture and use will both be illegal. (If you care).

There already is (or at least claims to be) - VGA at least anyway!

    http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/DCDA1.ASP

I have no idea as to the legality of such a device in the UK though!

    EDIT
Just looked at the manufacturer's website for this

    http://www.dtrovision.com/dcda1.htm

interestingly makes no mention of HDCP at all.
Read what you will into this, but I'd be very dubious now about buying this device with the intention of defeating HDCP - it may NOT do it after all!
(of course they could be just keeping stum - personally I doubt it though)
