A package that was sent to me recorded 1st class last Friday I didnt get till Monday, and one I sent Wednesday didnt get there till today. Yet one sent to me 2nd class yesterday I received ths morning. I have come back from P O as I sent another package of and I asked how long it takes for 1st or 2nd class packages and I was told 'how long is a peice of string'. So I really am not sure what you are paying for when you decide on either service.

We all know there is meant to be a difference... but I always choose free delivery for amazon and the postie has never taken more than 2 days, save for one occasion when apparently they didn't know it was in the van

1st class eventually arrives at some future date.
2nd class disappears without trace...its a useful way of disposing of things you no longer need and more cost effective than taking them to an authorised waste dump.

old system - 2nd class could be left by the posties for the next day - in the office / in the mail bag if they didnt like the look of the delivery.

new system - majority are forced to take this item out for delivery - but will shed less tears about it if its above and beyond them to deliver.

+90% of royal mail income is from junk mail not personal items/packets

    hope this helps :)

I allways send parcels or letters of importance recorded delivery , and if going to a company or a government agency always send so it requires a signature you'd be suprised how many times they claim they did not get it till i tell them who signed for it, got me out of quite a few problems.

The royal mail are utter crap, someone sent me a parcel 1st class friday morning, and i didnt get it yesterday like i should have. Now i have to wait for tuesday to get it. How about opening bank holidays and/or sundays like every other company. I know people hate working those hours but ive had to do it before so why shouldnt they. Even if they just sorted parcels and allowed collection only on sundays it would be an improvement. I am happy to drive to town to collect it since i usually have to anyway since some bright spark thought "i know, we'll deliver while everyones at work"

The new boss. They spun it and said they would get rid of the "second delivery". But actually, they got rid of the early 7/8am delivery, so in effect post 9am deliveries meant you get everything a day late. Luckily at uni, halls management collects my parcels. But I don't fancy having to go back to structuring my day around the postie turning up at 10:30am and later

1st class if posted before a certain time will more than likely get there the next day but not guaranteed, 2nd class give up to 2-3 days.
