I'm right confused I recntly boughta Cambridge dac thinking that I'd get a coax input but what I have is different I seem to have unusual digital connections at the input and oput put stage. optical ok but there is no coaxial . Instead the sockets have a very thin( 2mm I'd say) pin hole in the centre the outer sheath of the socket juts out about a centimetre there are two lugs jutting out from them on on each side and a a plastic thread at the bottomed here. Can anyone help?

Cinche is another name for RCA/Phono.

Indeed it does sound like a BNC. You can get BNC - Phono socket adapters from Maplins etc.
