Have just read an earlier posting regarding sub-settings on the dv89, set it up as explained in the manual go to test page no signal through sub out-put
works fine through multi channel dvd-a switch to 2 channel signal from the same no bass via sub same as if playing a cd via phono cables also through the 6 phono inputs, sub used to work via phono leads into cd-input are all dv89s faulty or is this just mine

The reason you are having a problem is as follows. When using the 'Ext-In' inputs on the back of the Denon 3802 the receiver will bypass any crossover and speakers size settings as these are all set on the player when playing DVD-A. This is fine when you are playing a DVD-A disc which has discrete information for all five main channels plus a separate subwoofer signal, hence 5.1. However when playing cds the DV89 regards the information on the disc as a 2.0 channel soundtrack. If you go into the setup menu for the player and set the Stereo+Sub option to say 'Crossover' or if you have large front speakers and have told the player this then you can set it to 'Duplicate' which will send bass to both speakers. There is a much easier way around this which is to use the second set of analogue stereo outputs from the DV89 and hook them into the CD inputs on the 3802. If you have the crossover set correctly on the 3802 then it should redirect the bass to the sub for you.
