Looking to go for a flat panel LCD screen. Play all sorts of PC games including a lot of FPS.

Want a screen at 19" or more with a fast response time.

    Any ideas?
Or is it best to go with a 17" Hitachi?

I think I would find it hard to move down in size from a 20" CRT.

17" TFT will be fairly close to a 20" CRT in size.

Currently 19" TFT still use the older technologies and their response times are not great.

I agree in physical screen size CRT screens are often a little exaggerated, TFT screens tend to be exact. So there is not much difference in viewable size.

The difference will only be noticeable if you run high resolutions. If you run your old monitor at 1600x1200 (as I used to on my 21" at work) you are going to be hard pushed to get that from a 17" TFT.

My 17" TFTs will only do 1280x1024 max, but the two together do a nice 2560 x 1024 ;)

    Cheers

    Thanks guys.

    Sorry I wasn't that clear.

My CRT is a 21" with a 19" viewable screen.

Prob best keeping the CRT then or upgrading it to a larger viewable size perhaps on an Iiyama 22" or something similar.

If the technology was better on the larger screens I would go for one, but all screens I can find over 17" tft seem to have response times at around 25ms which I know is not good enough.

I use my CRT at 1280x1024 as a desktop and play games at either 1280x1024 or 1600x1200....

    Thanks for the advice

LG are in the process of releasing a 19" tft wi 16ms response time which should clear ghosting up! I think the model number is 1910b or something close just look for the 17" version number thats quite popular at the moment and swap 17 for 19! Hope that makes sense quite tired bad day :)

    Got ya a link http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=664270

Not a bad place for info!

Also if you want to go for a 17" the one i am waiting to see is the samsung 172x which looks to be very good and is released sometime this month!
But if you want one now the viewsonic seems to be very popular but has had problems as do everything these days
