Is there a big difference in sound performance, depth, dynamics or other between Onkyo series 600, like 603, 604, 674, 605 versus series 800, like 803, 804 in CD stereo sound and also movies surround, or is it mostly just a difference in electronic features and equipement?
    Thanks.

Although I haven't had chance to audition them yet there is meant to be a significant quality difference between the 600 and 800 series.

The 805 is over double the weight of the 605 - that extra weight is taken up by beefier transformers and amplification circuits.

The 805 and up also have better DACs (Burr Brown as opposed to Cirrus Logic) which improves the audio quality.

But the proof is in the eating they say... You're best of trying a side by side audition of the two amps.

I am pondering this too, unfortunately I am not in a position to audition them so will be buying blind (or deaf!) Anyone who has heard both and could comment on the differences would be helping me (and probably quite a few others!) with their decision. :smashin:

the 805 and 875 are essentially the same bar the reon video processor and the ability to bridge the front and surround rear channel to drive the front speakers. as far as sound goes, they are virtually identical:)

There is a comparison chart here on the Onkyo site.

The 875 also has "VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) for All Channels" (not sure exactly what does for you though :)), an extra HDMI input and video out for zone 2.

Can you compare TX-SR804 to TX-SR605? As the first is an older model, can be found on discounts, so is not far from the price of the later. The weight of the oder model is not as consoderabely different as with the latest series 800 vs. series 600, but is pretty close on the noted models.
