Is the wii u worth buying?

If some gave you the money for a wii u, would you buy one?

Depends on what you're after really. If you like Nintendo's first party games then I'd recommend it. Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong, NSMB U + Luigi U, and Wind Waker are all amazing games. Zombi U and Rayman Legends are also well worth a look too. It also has a good collection of Indie games if those take your fancy, and the Virtual Console stuff (now including GBA games).

Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros are both out this year, and games like X, Hyrule Warriors and the like all look like they have great potential.

Personally, I don't think £200 as a bad price for the console if most of the games I've listed above are ones you're interested in.

Thank you, I'll have a look this week about buying one.

I was in the exact situation as you last month!had a wii when was out, gradually got less and less playtime due to ps3 & xbox 360,ended up selling for about £60!

Bought ps4 at launch and at 1st loved it,then for some reason the shine just disappeared(maybe as not many games out)so just sat there getting no use!

Decided to buy 2ds and realised i missed nintendos games(luigis mansion 2,excellent game)!mentioned to gf i fancied a wii-u,didnt go down well after the whole wii saga so went quiet for a month!finally bought one off here, best decision ever!!!games are exactly what i wanted, even so ive sold ps4 in meantime!

You wont regret the decision mate,i havent for 1 minute!plus lots of wii games i missed out on too,so can revisit mario galaxy 2 etc when ready!!!

ye as much as i love the ps4 its mainly a net flux player now. when tlou, uc, and dying light come out may be i will gain more interest but for now its a bit of a snooze. i had thought of selling but i would need to rebuy and loose more cash! i am however in truth more interested in the ps3 and wii atm. i have a vita. its good but play seldom and am thinking of reburying a 3ds

I got £300 for my ps4 so only lost £50 on console!if I ever wanted one again I reckon it would be same cost as I sold so not too bad!

Sold my vita too,as much as I liked it,just felt like its getting used as a handheld console and not really producing handheld games on it,whereas the 3ds/2ds is doing that perfectly!

ye i bought the wii u largely for nintendo games as most do but i was keen on the off screen tv so this for me is a selling point when it works. i found i need to be need the t, but evan as a complement to gaming i.e. zelda where it is my pouch bag it is great.

the vita i hoped would act as very much the same with the ps4 but the link up has been shocking and where it has i have found it too fidley. I struggle with this now. its my 3rd and i keep saying i will play it but i have learnt i only want it for "pick up and play" short games so i too had thought of selling.

At christmas I looked at PS4's but they were still having stock problems, then saw a great deal on the wii u and thought, what the hey nintendo have never disappointed me before, really don't regret it. Long term I think the 3rd party support is limited and dwindling but it is all about the nintendo games. I've since got a PS4 as well and right now the wii u is the better gaming console, less serious and just a joy to play. sticking on mario world never ceases to be enjoyable and while i like the more serious nature of ps4 games they don't put the smile on your face like mario and co do.

I've got a vita too but was considering a 2ds, i really want to play zelda a link between worlds. The vita is mainly used as a remote play device though, i've never bought a game on it only those I get through PS+, but being able to play games off of the TV is a huge factor in my decision to go both wii u and PS4 over the xbox one, it's not the same but i'll take the hit in quality if it means I get more gaming time

The 3DS XL may be a better option than a 2DS. I picked up a 2DS at Xmas and while I thought the button layout was great, the screen was too small for me after being used to the Gamepad and Vita.

Maybe just me but I find the Vita remote play a poor second to the Wii U's off tv play

I wasn't fussed by the 3D effect, I know I can turn it off but it's a lot more money to turn off the main difference, that said I prefer the clam shell design over the 2DS, had they made the 2DS more like the 3DS form factor without the 3D screen I'd be sold on it.

The vita remote play is different to the wii u, the wii u one is better but if I leave the living room it doesn't work at all, so it's kind of limited by the proximity to your console, the vita uses my wifi so works all over the house, probably even outside if I dare to try it

I don't use the 3D at all on the XL but just prefer the larger screen.
I'm the opposite on design, if they made a 2DS XL I would definitely be tempted. I found the 2DS very comfortably to hold, better even than a naked XL (I use a grip with the XL)

Yeah the Gamepad range is a problem for some but luckily my man cave where the console sits is directly over the living room so I've zero problems.
I'd played AC Black Flag on both the Wii U and PS4 and didn't really enjoy using the Vita whereas the Gamepad was spot on

vita for me is sort of odd. I have one but need to justify it. Like its only got a few games i would play on it. Hand held for me is not to play console versions of games. 3DS /2DS has a great catalogue you won't find anything close elsewhere. The vita has games that i can otherwise play on ps4 but in a weaker form. Its good but i am in truth a little off put buy it. The wii u is great.

I'd say the Wii U is definitely worth buying for all gamers. It's got the best games line up on any of the current gen consoles, I love being able to just game on the gamepad and it's relatively cheap.

The downside is the 3rd party support (so most gamers will need one of the other two as their 'main' console), but the positive is that the 1st party support is better than the other two.

Bottom line though, everyone needs to own one for Super a Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 if nothing else!

The Wii probably is worth buying for all the inevitable Nintendo exclusives, but I think it would work out better for gaming as a whole in the long run if nobody bought it and it just died forcing Nintendo to focus on their next project.

If a few people keep buying it, it's likely to limp on for longer than it deserves.

I think it depends on what stage of life you are as a gamer. I'm at the stage where every new game that's out on the 360/X1, PS3/4 are a case of been there done that. Whilst Nintendos franchises have indeed been around for a long time two and are often tapped in to I feel there's a element of being different to them that makes the Wii U a definite worth while purchase. 3D Mario World, MK8, Donkey Kong, Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker.... you can't (imo) find titles like these on other systems. I get the feeling the next Zelda will be a re-invention of the series and hopefully Mario sees a revolution like it did on the Wii with the Galaxy titles.

Definitely worth buying! :)

If you were considering it amazon still have the basic model with 3 games and an extra wii remote plus for £199, games aren't the best (nintendoland, wii party u and just dance) but for what is only about £15 more than buying the MK8 bundle i think it would be worth the extra

I got this pack a while ago when it was £189 and you actually get 2 extra Wii controllers. Even at £199 I would say this is the best deal around unless you really want a black console.

Argos pack with mario u, luigi u and lego hobbit or marvel or movie 250 pluss 10 voucher back when bought!

Wii u is atm the best unit out. I own a ps4 and am board to tears with it

Really could not disagree more. I do think ninty should drop game pad though and replace this with ds link up for certain games.

I have had a wii u from launch, I still play black ops 2 on it as I think its excellent you can play on the controller if the missus wants to watch tv, plus the graphics in my opinion are very good.

As for games, there are some good and bad ones, I did not think much of zombie u but love Mario!

I would say if you can get one cheap enough go for it.
