Is the TH42PX700 worth the extra money compared to the th42px70? Seen the TH42PX700ped in costco earlier for £903 including VAT, is it worth this sort of money or i do buy a th42px70 from ED for £799?

    How much better is it?
I will be using the TV for Sky, Freeview and normal DVD's.
Also going to be getting an xbox 360 soon.

The main difference is the upgraded sound system (improved bass sounds, improved clarity plus probably slightly better stereo separation through having the speakers at the side rather than at the bottom as they are on the PX70) plus an extra hdmi socket; you didn't mention if you have a separate surround system but IMO I don't think the extra cost is worth it. Best to get a demo though and decide for yourself if the changes are worth it for your particular setup.

I have a sound system but it only works on DVD's, dont have an optical input on it. Only 2 phono sockets and AUX on the actual player.

The price differential used to be a lot greater between these two models which made the decision easier (- i.e. generally better to put the difference towards a proper surround sound package since for day-to-day viewing the sound quality on the PX70 is adequate); if you feel you'll benefit then go with the PX700 as only you can decide if the extra is worth it.

There's an SD card slot on the 700 which you can use to view digital photos on the screen. Which is nice.

I decided it wasn't. I'd spend the extra money on the 360, which with a bridge can be wirelessly linked to your computer and display much more memorys worth of photo's than an SD card. Which is also nice. And you can buy & play COD4.

Maybe it's just me, but I would rather they just concentrate on the core television functions of producing a nice picture with as wide a range of sources as possible rather than these extraneous functions.

I agree to a point, but you could argue that the extraneous functions is exactly what the 700 model is for.

I too am looking at the 700 in Costco, it's a good price right now.

The 700 also has slightly different image setting options. It has the "AUTO" mode like the PZ range that allows the panel to adjust to ambient light to pick "best" settings. I have demod this in Costco and it works very well.

Also, the extra scart and HDMI may well stop the need for switch units if you have more than two of any connectors.
