Argos have the Pure Evoke 2 for 99 quid (not the XT model) is it worth paying the extra £10 over the Evoke 1XT model, it does have an extra speaker but doesn't seem to have USB connection for software upgrades, also it isn't the XT model but the 1 is... Cheers
Does the 2 take batteries? the xt1 does not. I have the xt1 (prestige) with the extra speaker and am very pleased with it. The fact that the speaker is separate gives a much better sound field
The Pure Evoke 2 has now been superceded by the very new Evoke 2XT. Both take batteries but the older model eats through them like there is no tomorrow. Not having heard the '2' recently I couldn't comment on the relative quality compared to the 1XT (which is mains only). What I can say is that having heard the 1XT (which I own) and the 2XT (which I bought for my Dad) both new models sound wonderful with none of the harsh tinnyness that is evident in cheap competitor versions. I much prefer the white-on-blue display of the XT range compared to the black-on-green of early models but that's purely cosmetic. I would spend the extra on the 1XT and then upgrade to the additional speaker later if you wanted.
Unfortunately the 1xt doesn't have FM broadcasting which my other half wants it to have so I'll go with the Evoke 2 for now and take it back if it isn't any good.
Are you after the wood finish because if you're not the cheaper Pure Elan is FM, DAB & optionally Battery powered. FWIW the XT versions IMHO sound noticably better than the originals (I have an Evoke Elgar).
Well it is meant to be a present and the Elan doesn't look quite as nice, I know the looks aren't that important but still.
