I'm looking at purchasing the Denon 3805 and as far as I can tell, it's been around for a year or so. As I don't want to buy something that is to be replaced by a newer model in a few months I was wondering is anyone knows?

I think you are in the wrong game if you dont want to buy something that will be replaced within a few months as that is the name of the game in AV at the moment.

Even if a new model is released shortly there will be another stream of new models coming out in the foreseeable future which will support DTS lossless etc which goes hand in hand with high def DVDs

It's not that I don't want to buy, just if a replacement is due in a couple of months, I'd rather wait..................................hell.........I can't wait.........I want it now..........!!!!

Looks a nice piece of kit, but I'm looking for something that's got a 3 zone multi room capability.

Marantz is great for music but for movies the Denon beats it by some margin in my opinion.

I don't think there's an amp on the planet which "walks all over" the Denon AVR-3805. That's vacuous Magazine talk.

The 3806 details are starting to slip out over at the AVS Forum in the USA. It should have HDMI/DVI switching, a cut down version of the Audyssey Room EQ found in the Flagship 5805 (A1XV) & Firewire. Rumours are floating about that it's release (as well as the release of the 4806/A11XV) maybe delayed to include Dolby DD+ and DTS HD processing. :)

UK & Europe amps tend to appear a couple of months after they've been released in the USA so best keep an eye out on what's happening over there.

The 3805 is awesome! packed full of features, however I notice you want 3 Zones, becarefull with the 3805 s it only supports 2 with it's own power amp, you will need a second amp to power Zone 2 or 3 if you want all 3 setup.

I have mine configured with Z1 lounge Z2 dining Room & Z3 Garden (effectivly Z2&3 kick out the same sound) which can be a different source to Z1. If you want 3 different sourced to Z1,2&3 then your stuck unless you get a second amp.

Atleast that is what I have figured out since receiving mine in Feb.

Nowithstanding that it's still amazing for both HC & Music. I don't use any video processing functionality as I go direct to Media Box from source, effectivly I don't need this & alsways switch it off.

If I want the same audio source in z1,z2 &z3 would I need a seperate amp for z3? can the main amp still control the volume in z3? what sort of amp would this have to be?

Yes you would need a 2nd Amp! to power either Z2 or 3

I need to check the manual if you are using 2 amp's if the volume can be controlled by the master, I think so but not tried that one!

An all in one amp from Denon anyway is the Big (very) brother! AVC-A1XV, an expensive alternate just to control sound in Z3, cheaper to get another amp! This is a mega AMP!!

I will have another look at my manual tomorrow for you.

Cool! Doesn't look there's any Dolby DD+ and DTS HD processing (probably asking a bit too much though!)

Just joined the forum and spent a little while reading about the various posts concerning the Denon 3805 (which I was rather thinking of buying). I'm sure this must have been posted elsewhere, but just so as people like me have the update - here's the latest info (as per August 5 2005) on the successor, the Denon 3806:

At the DENON IFA Stand they said that the 3805 is so successful that it will be produced in parallel with the 3806 for sometime yet.

Which of course means the 3806 will have to be priced considerably above the 3805. Which would be rather like a :thumbsdow . Unless, of course, the suggested retail price for the 3805 is lowered, which would be a :smashin: . Except for the fact that retailers have already lowered their prices in expectation of the 3806, which would...

Oh dear, I'm getting confused... :)

Retail Price for the 3806 will be 1399 Euros which works out about 980 quid. The 4306 will be 1999 Euros (around 1400 quid). The 3806 is due October, the 4306 in November.
