I saw an article in new scientist a while back, and apparently married men live a lot longer than single blokes. Personally, I love being married, and my missus is great. The only bad thing is you can't go after hot pieces of totty when you choose! :(

Difficult one. I enjoyed the freedom I had when I was single, but that was when I was 34 having been in a relationship since the age of 18

Only lasted a while before I settled down again, but, now..........I love my life, still got my freedom, but have someone to share it with.

    Gone for 'Hell No'

Well I,ve been with the same bird for 29 years and would not swap her for anyone even though she gives me grief on a daily basis. Mind you I wouldnt mind a bit of nookie on the side now and again. On second thoughts probably not a good idea

As a newly wed, I've gone for Hell No! But then, my missus is on this forum (Shadowifey), so I'm not gonna say otherwise, now am I? (Only kidding, darling!)

Mind you, if you've seen her in this thread (post #36) , you'll understand why I've no need to look elsewhere :smashin:

LOve it mate, love it :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have been with the same woman for 10 years. I have a child who is 4 years old with her. She left me for a while a couple of years ago. I missed her for a while but as time went on I found it was the compnay I missed rather than her specificaly( although I did miss my son) six months later she came back.
Its a difficult one to judge. I would definatly have more money if I was single and I think If I didnt alreday have a child perhaps I would be happier. Not having my son around though was hard, and when they both came back things got a little better.
I think that if you have been single for a long time you can get really used to your own company. If you have been in a relationship for a while you can feel really empty if it ends. As humans we have the capacity to adapt to our situations and make the best of them. Any way rambling on a bit here, :D
In conclusion I think I would be happy either way if I did not have children. Now I have a son I think family life is probably best (at the moment anyway :D )
    Dave.

dave s i think you hit the nail on the head.

when i broke up with my last g/f (which was a 2 year relationship) it was a really hard time for me post breakup, i felt quite lonely, but as you say its just a case of what your used to. its strange coming home to an empty house, no company or attention. but a few months on and i really look forward to just coming home and putting a HD film on the plasma as loud as i want! it gives me the independence to do anything i want, and for that i am lucky. im also lucky enough to have some nice female company for the weekends as and when i choose. but i would definately be lieing if i said i wasnt looking for that perfect girl.

Both have there advantages and disadvantages but anyone who has truly been in love with another person and has a proper relationship is not going to long for a single life no matter how much they joke about it.

My mrs reads these forums as well and she will back me up allot of people we know both here and in the real world have one-sided relationships where one partner typically the female completely rules the roost and use there mans love for them to dominate them and thoroughly crush the free spirit out of them. Most of my friends can not do a thing without permission from there other half and they don’t dare do something without the perspective partners. If my mrs is at work or at home for that matter and I want to see my friends I see them I don’t have to stop in and watch DVD’s so as she does not miss out.

To many men out there have no balls and need to reassert themselves as an equal partner in there relationships. The bottom line fellas don’t get into a relationship with a girl who is only going to try and change you and use sex as a reward for doing what they want.

It did for me last night

Married life/partner is great IMO, but I guess if things in a relationship are not going well then a single life could be appealing.

i love being married, we both have space i get to see my mates and we have the same interests and hobbies so we fit together well. we never argue (well sometimes, but not often). cant imagine her not being in my life after 23 years.

I didn't at the time --- until long after she left me .... then it was a case of suddenly realising I had pretty much been living in a delusional world. I was more obsessed with someone else being with her than wanting to be with her myself --- she was handfy for someone to sit next to at the cinema ( when I used to be too embarased to go on my own ... not anyome )
and ofc the obvious ... but other than that, I often spent most of my time trying to catch breif moments of solitude so I could watch a film or play the computer in peace ... without being nagging to go shopping etc.

the 3L twin turbo should be back from the engine rebuild next week ..... and my new 5.1 headphones have arrived - time to get online and find some more new toys \o/

Been married for 17 years (last Saturday) now and quite happy to carry on being married until DDUP thanks very much.

When you get to my age, and see all the mates I went to school with who are single, spending their leisure time down the pub/clubs getting into a mess, or shacking up with women they wouldn't have looked at even with 'beer glasses' in their youth, I thank God I'm NOT single. ;)

    I dunno...

I see some of the women my mates have shacked up with, and think...

As for me, I've just removed every internal wall (barring the bathroom) in my place, in order to create my Home Cinema/Studio masterpiece.
I probably don't know any women who'd put up with me anyway, so accordingly I'm not prepared to put up with any of them... :D

yeah, you spend all that time and money getting the system you want - shack up with some lass and she complains about it...

when I lived with my ex - I had all my stuff in the spare front room (which was ideal) - but she wasn't into music / dvds, so when I went through there she wasn't happy (made me feel guilty) so, when her mates came around I would think that was a good time to pop through - wrong again, I got accused of being ignorant!! can't win either way...
