This evening my son who is getting a Wii as his christmas present, asked if the memory card is needed to save game progress - he's worried because we haven't bought one.

I'm sure I read that it is only needed if you want to download games that you buy with Wii points.

Is this true or will he need an SD card to save his Zelda progress.

If he does need one, does it have to be a Nintendo card or will any SD card do?

    Cheers,

    Nigel

No, it uses onboard storage space - so all will be sweet :)

I bet he knows but he's scamming his dad for more hardware :D

No card needed, it's got 512mb built in memory which you can save game data onto and also download virtual console games onto.If you decide to buy a memory card later any SD card will work.

With regard to the downloadable console games it's a bit of a pain when you run out of built in memory as you can't run them straight from an SD card you have to transfer the game from your SD Card into the internal memory to allow the games to work.

If your son buy's virtual console games and he runs out of space on the internal 512mb he can delete games to free up space but you never lose the ability to download the deleted game as it is registered to his console and can then be downloaded again in the future free of charge as many times as you like.

Does this all make sense but what I'm trying to say is you will only need to buy a SD card if you want to transfer Photo's
