    Hi

I've got a Vibe Beta sub and a Marantz 4200 receiver. When I play the test tone there is no "white noise" from the subwoofer. If I watch a dvd it appears (to me at least) that its working fine. Also if I turn the sub volume up it makes a humming noise.

Surely the test tone should make some noise from the sub?

Any ideas? Should I be using a special cable, I am just running a cheapo phono cable?!!

Most amplifiers will output the test tones to all speaker channels including the sub but not all so maybe yours is one that doesn't.

If you can hear humming at higher volumes perhaps a better sub cable with improved shielding may help reduce this.

    Thanks for the replys.

I have been doing a few searches on the forum and found some one who had a very similar problem. They fixed it by replacing their sub cable with a better quality shielded one as you suggested Ian.

I have now ordered a 3m sub cable from Mark Grant so hopefully this will improve my problem.

    thanks again for you help
