    Socket 478 P4 2.66 can o/c to 3.06 (Northwood)
    AGP 8x slot
    1gb DDR333 dual channel
    7200rpm HDD's
Videologic SonicXplosion PCI soundcard and stereo speakers

Looking to buy a 6800GT card for another 12-18 months of gaming, before doing a major upgrade (new mobo/cpu/memory/gfx card).

Will my system be able to take advantage of the 6800gt or will it be bottlenecked? In which case which Nvidia card would give me the best gaming experience? I have a 19" TFT 1280 x 1024, and would love to play games with all details turned up and at a highest res as poss.

Had a few forum discussions about this already, but seem to be getting mixed views... Just about to fork out £200 so wanted a second opinion... maybe I should run a poll!

    thanks

you will be fine :) coming from a former owner of a 6800GT. sold it to my mate who has it in his AMD barton system so that P4 will be fine.
bearing in mind running at that Res it not all to do with the GPU with an emphasis on CPU but for the most part you will be fine.

Thanks for the replies - I did consider a 6600GT, I have one in my other pc (HTPC) but thought the 6800GT would give me some extra fps for gaming? Just wondered if the rest of my system would bottleneck it.... think I will go for the 6800GT, any particular makes I should choose/avoid?

I recmoend the BFG 6800GT OC. It comes over clocked and with a full guarantee. Its comes pretty close to 6800 Ultra's specs and you can probably over clock the card to match a full spec Ultra.

Its a great card! Im pretty sure it got good reviews. You can have a look over at HardOCP.

Ok, thanks - looks like a good card, can only find one UK based supplier with stock and it is £100 more expensive than other 6800GT's  I may make some enquiries and see if I can get it shipped from the US....

generally there isnt a huge amount between cards, mostly the bundles, the BFG one is one of the best however as it does run quicker out of the box.

All i will say is if you get an XFX one becareful, as my mate had to take his one back.

they are selling some GT's with only 900mhz memory bandwidth instead of 1000.

its not always clear this is the case, even the box said 1000mhz.

Well, I couldn't bring myself to pay an extra £100 for the BFG one and Overclockers are doing a special this week on a generic 6800GT, so I have ordered one  How exciting!

Downloaded the FEAR and COD2 demo's and will try and pick up copies of SC3 and Fahrenheit... what's going on with HL2 - are the add-ons all multiplayer or is there an extension due to the SP game?
