Picture just went on it the other night. There is just a red light showing on the front (It's a Pace box BTW). Cant get anything to happen by pressing any of the buttons on the front - tried unplugging and waiting 10minutes. Not a sausage.

It was a replacement box that a SKY engineer fitted last year. Bloody typical that it conked out a couple of weeks out of the 6month warranty period.

Are these things worth fixing or am I better off paying SKY £60 to repair/replace the box. Seems to have very poor reliability IMHO.

Or am I better off buying a 2nd hand SKY+ box?

It might just be the hard disk that has died - listen very carefully to the box while it's starting - can you hear clicking noises ?

If it is the hard disk that has died, you could change it yourself for about £40, or spend a bit more for a 160-200Gb drive. Full instructions on how to do this can be found on the Hummer website.

Thanks for the reply Nick, but it's it's just a bog standard SKY box, not a SKY+ box.

So I guess it can't be a disk problem then...

    Any other ideas?

Sorry, when you talked about buying a 2nd hand Sky+ box, I thought it was to replace one you already had. You can pick up 2nd-hand Sky boxes on Ebay for a song - it's not really worth getting it repaired.

    Thanks

    That's what I thought.

    Will give Ebay a try.
