    Hi,

Yesterday I bought a Pioneer 656A, initially I was very happy with it
until I connected my gamecube via an RGB scart to the AV connector 2.

Before I connected the cube, when I put a DVD in, it would auto switch
to the correct AV channel on the TV and switch to wide screen as
needed, everything worked fine. When I connected the cube I found that
when I put in a DVD it would initially switch to the correct channel
on the TV, but after a couple of seconds it would switch back to
    regular TV (sky via tivo)

When I unplug the cube everything works as it should do. When I turn
on the game cube without the DVD player on it auto switches to the
correct channel and it stays there.

Strangely, if I turn on the DVD player, and put in a disk after which
it switches to sky, and then turn on the Gamecube, it then auto
    switches to the DVD channel.

I've been through all the settings and cannot find anything that I
should be doing to get it to work properly, I'm using a high quality
scart and an official Nintendo RGB scart for the cube.

Has anyone had any problems with switching? I'm not sure if my player
is faulty, I am not happy with the current situation as the one of the
main reasons I bought the player was for its ability to loop through
the gamecube RGB signal, as before that I had the cube connected
directly to the TV and had to use the SVideo socket with my old DVD
player, which meant having to manually switch channels and wide screen
mode, and after the upgrade I'm finding I have to do that anyway.

    Any thoughts appreciated,

    Julie

I have my gamecube connected to the rgb loop thru scart on my Pioneer 545 and auto AV switching still works fine. Obviously you can't have both switched on at one time for the loop thru to work.
Do you have a loose scart connection somewhere?

I've checked the scarts, they are fully inserted. I have tried connecting my Tivo to the second input and that works perfectly and does not interfere with DVD playback, which seems strange.

Thanks for the info and suggestions

You may just may have a loose solder connection in one of the 21 pins of the scart (possibly pin 8). Try to use another scart lead and see if the situation improves.

The DVD to TV scart lead works fine when my Tivo is attached, the problem only happens with the Game cube which uses a special scart lead with a Game cube connector at one end, and I don't have a spare

The gamecube scart lead only has a few pins, unlike a regular scart, I don't know if that is connected with the problem.

    Thanks for the suggestions
