it's been sitting here bust for 16mths now.

just prior to that it started making a intermittant but regular humming noise which was also accompanied by a static snow / pixalating (?) effect which quite quickly spread across roughly 60% of the screen.

the regular screen would come back in places then go again until within a day (actually boxing day!) there was a sudden smell and it died right there.

standby light works but thats it.

shoulda seeked help before it got terminal but too late now...i'd welcome any ideas on

    1/ what caused this?
2/ could it be traced, if not fixed, by my local av repair man without him causing more damage?
3/ any ideas on typical repair cost

despite it being under 1 year old when this happened i was told as it was already a replacement unit for an earlier faulty screen that i'd used up any warranty i had and was now on my own. nice. :smashin:

Sounds like you had one of my kids in the house.... It is possible to repair plasmas, I would try NEC for a repair agent. Come 9am I'll make a call or 2 if you like, whereabouts are you, I should think there's more than 1 place.
