Here's is what they say in the Sony user manual :

Consumers should note that not all high definition
television sets are fully compatible with this product and
may cause artifacts to be displayed in the picture In the
case of 525/625 progressive scan pitture problems, it is
recommended that the user switch the connection to the
standard definition output, If there are questions
regarding our TV set compatibility with this model 525p/
625p DVD recorder, please contact our customer service
    centre

Thanks to the specialists you are...

Hello, now I tried and can answer my own question...

Yes, the hx710 is fully compatible PS, tried PAL and NTSC DVD, no problems..

I must add that the 32PD50 delivered a HIGHLY superior quality image from anything inputed in the HX710 (Sat/Pioneer DVR720...) and outputed in progressive scan.

Also, DVD movies are FAR MORE superior quality in PS mode than Y/C or RGB

I just rediscovered my tv set and was stuck in front of it as the picture quality was soo good, no more artifacts, pixelisation, strange effect on faces...!!!

Will never use other input than YUV now...

But the Sony did not totally convinced me so I will try next week the new Pioneer DVR 530

I agree that YUV is the way to go, but with my PD50 and DVDS97 in PS mode the picture is worse than standard interlaced. Weird huh?

I just bought a Panny 36PL35F (same set as 36PL32 in England). And I loved it. Some people here in this forum indicated the P.S. is worse than any other connection for some DVD players while better for others.

So do any other PL32 (PL35) or PD50 owners suffer from the same thing? How on earth I can know in advance that a DVD player will be a good fit for PL35?

I think PS is as good as the circuitry in your DVD player/recorder...

Some DVD player deliver very poor PS picture....

I agree, since the TV is capable of displaying faultless progressive pictures with some DVD players then with a lower quality display it is the DVD to blame.
