what is YOUR purpose in life?
eat, sleep, drink, eat, sleep, drink die?
share your thoughts here.
Why are you here?
To try and push a religion on to people?
what a crock of **** on that website.
Well, seeing as though none of us had a choice wether to be here or not, i think our purpose is clear.
To live life and enjoy it.
of course not, its simply a question which many cannot answer, whilst others have different views.
I simply see this as a platform for intellectual discourse
why would i want to drink die?
Easy one that, we are obviously neighbours from hell, look how we treat each other at times, and everyone else has packed up and buggered off somewhere else.
What!? In General Chat?
they usually dont go down too well. mainly as the religious have zero evidence of the vast majority of things in the bible actually happening and blind faith is never a great starting point.
i say this will be locked by the end of the day, let me get my popcorn!
In which case that website serves no purpose, I've removed it for you as it seemed to only be in this post (and another post of yours in another thread where it was off topic) for promotion of the site.
To answer the question.
Why am I here?
I do not know. But I'm happy with not knowing.
To enjoy my time
I think that your life must be pretty poor if all you think you are for is to eat, sleep, drink, eat, sleep, drink die?
My own preference is shag, eat, shag, sleep, shag, drink, shag, eat, shag, sleep, shag, and finally die with a big smile?
ok,my purpose as a muslim is clear cut, to gain the pleasure of god through being a good human and attain life in an eternal paradise, all of that may seem garbage if you dont believe in a god, so here a reason for the existence of god,
Order in the Universe
When we reflect upon the nature of our world, we see order everywhere from the water cycle to the movement of the earth around the sun. Commenting on the order found in the universe, the physicist Stephen Hawking explains that the overwhelming impression is one of order, the more we discover about the universe, the more we find that it is governed by rational laws. This observation is shared by the vast majority of scientists.
Since the universe has order and is governed by the laws of science, we should question how this order came about. The most effective way to answer this question is to reason to the best conclusion. Take your mobile phone for example, your phone is made of glass, plastic and metal. Glass comes from sand, plastic comes from oil and metal is extracted from the ground. Imagine you were walking in a desert (where there is lots of oil, sand and metals in the ground), and you found a mobile phone lying around. Would you believe that it came together by itself? That the Sun shone, the wind blew, lightning struck, the oil bubbled to the surface and mixed with the sand and metal, and over millions of years the mobile came together by chance?
No one would believe such an explanation. A mobile phone is clearly something that was put together in an organised way, so it would be rational to believe that it must have an organiser. In the same way, when we see the order in the universe, isnt it rational to say that the universe has an organiser?
This organiser is best explained by the existence of God. God is the one who bought about the order in the universe.
Do people still say shag and do four asterisks actually come in crocks?
Or well before that - just got my note in before it.
This is the thing with faith, you can justify your beliefs in a number of ways... and I'm perfectly fine with that.
But I can justify my lack of faith/belief in a God and I like to think most people respect that
I believe any purpose we have, is one we decide for ourselves.
As a resultant of evolution, we're just a happy accident (or just the natural outcome of the variables involved).
Strange fetish you have there fella
The link to your website gets taken down, so you just copy and paste all the text anyway?
Only if you're core belief is in a God, does that sound acceptable.
Your belief in God came before you were able to accept the statement above as sound.
This is the difference between theists and atheists.
Because holes exist in science we don't jump to the conclusion that a beardy fella waved a magic wand made a few planets, then sat around on a cloud for 3.5 billion years or thereabouts then waved it again and made a couple of humans.
Correct, they wouldn't if they were an atheist.
Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.
... (Existence is but an illusion)
but being a muslim isnt your purpose. you are only a muslim because you were brought up this way (brainwashed/indoctrinated) or decided to go that way later in life.
the easiest way to explain something you cant understand is 'god'. who created him?
Who organised and created God?
firstly I thank you for a nice reply, a lot of people on here give useless replies which lack substance,
you say my belief in god came before I was able to accept the above statement. Correct, you are right, in fact atheists themselves recognise a god simply because they define themselves as not believing in 'a god' in the first place!
so theist and atheists both recognise a god , atheists define themselves in terms of a god. so in actual fact over the years there has been a paradigm shift,
Evolution is incomplete,
here is some food for thought, /
we have never seen a new species being formed, neither have we in our 8000 or so year history ever seen an incremental evolutionary change in a species
of course, you are right,
being muslim is not my purpose, I was introduced to islam and was amazed by the fact that a book of over 1400 years of age had 0 contradictions and was 100% scientifically compatible (unlike the bible) , this led me to believe in a god.
however prior to reading I always had a negative view as shown in the media,
Your arguement regarding who created god is good, however from simple logic we know something is created which was created by something else which was created by siomething else and so on but finally it ends with a creatOR.
God is the creator, he was not created, he was not born nor will he die, he has always existed and always will exist.
really? humans have evolved in the last few hundred years. we are almost a foot taller than we used to be.
there is also reptiles species that has recently stopped laying eggs and started to give birth to live young.
evolution is around us every day. also, in the scale of things, 8000 years is a pretty insignificant amount of time.
If you don't mind me asking...
How old are you?
in actual fact you will find that the early humans were much much taller than we are now,
We're all getting smaller and our brains are shrinking... is farming to blame? | Mail Online
you say reptiles have stopped laying eggs and started giving live birth? this would mean they have gone from reptile to mammal? this is impossible, please provide evidence?
why is this appropriate
Yes! , yes it is !!
Evolution in Action: Lizard Moving From Eggs to Live Birth
we are shrinking? odd, i thought old skeletons of humans were much smaller. they were certainly smaller in the middle ages.
could you not also argue that we have evolved in terms of skin colour? since we are all descended from black men, over the years we moved north and got lighter skin. wouldnt that be classed as evolution?
Yes. Refer to your original question.
How old are you?
This sounds like religious propaganda, you state 'facts' which you believe back up your beliefs.
This might work well in an age without internet.
It makes me wonder, are seemingly false statements like the above all it takes to convince some people?
Without a decent retort, it reduces your credibility to nothing when you base your beliefs on a lie.
I'm not attacking anyone, it's just food for thought - devil's advocate perhaps.
