YES but forget Ebay!!!! from this very forum £13 delivered to your door! Ebay is a RIP off. Pro calibration at £250 is far better investment but DVE can help with basic setup but you do need to know what you are looking for to get the best out of it...but for £13 its a real eye opener.

    John,

I got one and as a noob I can say it was worth the money for the education alone. It gives you test cards and basic info about how to get set up (and why). It contains more detailed cards which would require getting into your service menu. As yet I have insufficient info about just what I should do once I get there and so have not played about. Is it going to help you improve your picture? Slightly (for a noob). Is it going to make you 100% confident about how to get the very best out of your tv? No. But it's going to educate you enough to know that you really need ISF calibration done by a pro. Well worth £13 IMHO (the DVD not the ISF calib). It also contains a few audio 5.1 type tests.

    John,

Before I started doing ISF calibration full time for a living I bought Avia, then DVE - followed all the instructions on both DVDs, tried to calibrate my CRT TV and it looked worse than before I started! Watched both DVDs again from beginning to end, tried calibrating again, improved things a bit, but.....

In the meantime I had bought a Panasonic PWD4, was far from happy with the picture quality (even though it had looked good in the shop) - I then discovered Gordon and ISF calibration and having had my PWD4 calibrated I was a convert.

Both DVDs are good, I now use them both almost every day, but to get the best out of them you need training and equipment. Training to show you how to use them (I don't think I am stupid but man, they are hard to fully understand), and equipment, because without that however good you reckon your eyes are, there are patterns on these DVDs that only professional test equipment can make use of.

ISF may seem expensive, but it uses seriously expensive test kit and training / experience to produce results that are very unlikely to be matched without the equipment.

And having read the 2 posts submitted whilst I was typing the above, you need both if you play region 2 and region 1 DVDs!
