Is it true that 100/120 Hz panels are worse for gaming?

I'm just trying to debunk or confirm a myth I keep reading recently. As an avid gamer trying to find a new TV, I keep reading that a 100/120 Hz panel will actually cause more blurring due to the screen having to be 'drawn' twice (most games being 60 max). I currently only have a 50/60 Hz TV, so have never experienced the difference. I can't really continue my search until I'm sure of which native panel speed would be better for me!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
