Is it safe to update itunes?

Hi guys is it safe to update itunes when using with your unlocked iphone?can it affect the iphone in anyway or are the itunes updates safe,its asking me to update to 7.6.2

I may be getting my new iphone later today so wanted to know if the itunes updates harm the unlocked phones in any way?thanks

Yup, no problem. The version of iTunes doesn't really cause problems, it's the iPhone software you need to be wary of and you'll only update that if you manually chose to from within iTunes when it claims one is available.
