For these kinds of operations you get a PC DVD burner and that's it! Standalone dvd recorders are not exist for these purpose.

It is illegal to make copies of copyright material. Most DVD's contain a Macrovision signal which prevents DVD and VHS recorders from copying. There is a scart cable available from KTVision which removes Macrovision, but to be able to use it you would need a separate DVD player, because the DVD player in your combo machine is directly linked to the recorder internally.

Sorry Nick, your understaning of copyright law is incorrect. :lesson:

You may copy any materiel you own/are licensed for backup purposes, including overly protected Microsoft material and if you wish to copy DVD for this purpose then DVDXcopy will allow you to archive any DVD.

I also thought it was illegal but if it is not then a video signal conditioner may help. There are several companies on the Internet selling such gizmos all of whom state that the device should not be used to breach copyright.

Despite many people believing it is legal ,it is NOT legal to make backups of copyright material ,whatever the reason. If Trading Standards raided you and found copied discs, the personal use backup excuse won't wash.
Last year the law was strengthened regarding devices to circumvent copy protection.Leads from the likes of KT Vision and Sonel are illegal, which is why Lektropacks and Keene Electronics don't sell them anymore, and why forums like Digital Spy and THIS forum have banned posting links to the sites that sell them.
Did you know that following another court case, modchips for a PS2 are also illegal, mainly down to a case where the modchips on trial could remove CP aswell. There are still some sites bending the law, regarding modchips and these leads, but sooner or later the Jobsworthts that are Trading Standards will move in once they have wasted more tax payers money on court cases stopping sex shops selling R18 discs over the net.
Back to the initial problem,DVDXCOPY was banned from sale in the US last year, they went out of business, and if you sell it on ebay it will be removed
