I'm going to be upgrading my TH42PW6 to a TH42PV500 + iScan HD+ or Lumagens Vision HDP if the reviews of it are all ok.

Is it possible for a suppying dealer to calibrate the plasma before shipping and if so do such dealers exist or is it a best done once in place with all sources connected?

Best done in place with your sources connected. I'm sure Gordon or Piers will be along to confirm tho

it wouldn't make sense because it's all down to what you have connected, how you have it connected, the light in your room, etc, etc....

You could have it all calibrated and shipped and it'd look miles better than out of the box. Final tweaking could be done in situ with other sources as required. There are dealers who can offer this.....The Media Factory being one....however I suggest that folk allow 100 hrs before having final calibrations done. While the greyscale may change over this first 100 it's probably not enough for folk to notice. My concern is more that electronics tend to fail in first 100hrs....and while I'd love to charge twice I think it's fairer to allow the electroncs the chance to expire and be replaced before a calibration is done.

Gordon am i correct in thinking that in the USA Pioneer Elite plasmas(ISF C3 compatible plasmas whatever that means) have a ISF setting on the menu but this can only be switched on by a ISF engineer who then sets up the set for your room?
and once the engineer has done this then you can toggle between the the ISF setting and the standard settings.

But this has to be set up in your home and cannot be done in advance.
Pioneer Elite dealers arrange the ISF engineer for you.
Do you think because the UK is focused mainly on price that they dont offer this sort of thing here in the UK?

Looks like Gordon may have gone to bed - know he's on the road at the mo so don't blame him!

The ISF day and night settings on the Pioneer Elite range from the States is something that we have been hoping for here in the UK. So far as I am aware no sign of it coming here, though Joe will no doubt correct me if I am wrong!

The Elite's do have the ISF licensed firmware in them. They have ISF day (or as I'd call it BROKEN) and an ISF night mode. They can only be accessed by ISF calibrators who have paid for the software to access it. The UK 505/405 models were initially advertised as having this feaure....I got some ISF software to test if it was actually operational in euro models.....it isn't.... It's nothing to do with economics. The Elite's, although based on XDE's and MXE's work like the MXE's......rather than the XDE's. The European models just don't have this functionality in them. I believe that Pioneer are going to try to resolve this in the new models to europe.....well we can only hope................

Sadly its Gordon not me :thumbsdow :)

Last I heard he was still trying to get enough folk to make the trip worthwhile so I have deliberately not poached any Ireland business from him.

Yeah, Zanzibar's a tad dodgy these days... however, the rest of Tanzania is broadly rather safer than the UK, IMO, and far nicer than the rest of West Africa. Hope she carries on with her trip and is OK.

Yes. Do pass on my best, too. I hope it doesnt cloud her experience of Tanzania - truly one of the friendliest countries I have ever visited.

    Hi Gordon

You state 100hrs before we should have our panels calibrated.

    Others state 200hrs

    Please advise

I measured my Pioneer MXE out the box, then at 100hrs then at 250hrs.....after 100 t had changed.....but not enough to be visible...just enough to be measureable. After 100 it was academic.......

TC/IP: I was going to be planning the trip this week but a PC catastrophe has meant that it has taken priority. The plan is to come over in May after the election. I will be contacting all parties soon....need to get a map of that island now.....
