Is it possible for a backup DVD to be better than the original?

I had a situation where I bought a commercial DVD preowned, which wasn't in particularly good condition (surface scratches etc). There was a point in one of the titles on the DVD where my DVD recorder struggled to play it. So I backed up the DVD to a DVD-R, which then played fine.

So my question is, is it possible for a good disc quality DVD-R backup to be more reliable during playback than the poor disc quality DVD original?

obviously the answer is yes if the original is scratched etc

but the backup is burned using a dye on the disk , the original is pressed and not burned

so the longevity is better on a pressed original disk compared to the burned backup

but that doesnt help when the original is scratched or damaged nor would it apply to a car or other goods that are repaired or refurbished somehow , so yes a repair can be superior to the original , but will it last ?

Thanks, that's good to know. I didn't know one was burned and one was pressed. I've also heard about various CD/DVD cleaning options, but I don't know how effective they are.

They should be regarded as a last resort.

It is easy to do more harm than good.
