I have been asked to softmod a friend's box, and I agreed. But when he brought it over, it is a crystal 1.6 box. Is it ok to softmod one of these. I'll be using AID 2.11 which I believe has the latest dash included.

Will it work if I have Xbox Live (which I do) on my Pal Green Xbox. You see MS might have updated my Xbox Firmware through live so I wont be able to do it. Also if i DO get it to work will I get kicked off live?

I'm not sure about the specifics, but I have heard that the later models (1.6 plus, I believe) are a bit more difficult to mod than it's predecessors. I'd check over at the xbox-scene.com forums for a better idea.

The mod I have used is the Krayzie Ndure method. This is a gamesave exploit mod but it leaves your C: drive files intact and creates a virtual C: drive instead. The mod is switchable; ie when you want to play on live, you load up your exploitable game (in my case Splinter Cell) and run the exploit again. You are then given the option of switching the mod off and this makes it perfectly Live-safe. The virtual C: drive is hidden and cannot be detected by Live.
