I appear to be in a huge minority at work by actually prefering By The Way to Californication

    Is it just me?

no By the Way is far superior to Californication IMO, possibly their best album yet.

well that's what I think too

At lunch today 5 of us happened to be talking about music and I was saying what a great album I thought it was, everyone else thought it was nothing compared to californication

I think californication is pretty good. However, I do not think it is in the same league as By the Way

no problem, that album takes me back to my Uni days

funny thing is a few years ago if I would have asked my form who sung Under the bridge they all would have said all saints

    now, most would say RHCP

I would like to point out that i was agreeing with James, Karkus snuck in the back door while i was typing my reply

    Californication is their best album.

It's their biggest musical achievement, full of talented riffs, plucks, lyrics, melodies.....

    No arguments, no discussion.

plenty of argument there matey!! Californication is forgetable and not a patch on By the Way. If you're after catchy riffs and great, great songs they are on By the Way, its their most mature and musically accomplished album to date and only Blood Sugar Sex Magic beats its sense of fun. They sound better than ever now and are IMO the best band in the world today. Long live the Chillis.

Californication sounded to me as though they got bored halfway through and gave up, oh come on 'Finger Painting' anyone?! A song about getting down and dirty while your lady is on the blob!? what the fudge! All filler no killer!!

Mother's Milk was a classic, to me it was faultless. The only album they've done since that is it's equal is By The Way.

Yeah, I bailed on the Chili Peppers after Mother's Milk. I have detested most everything they've done since. Far too whiney for my liking.

check out the V2003 festival line up.

Besides the Chilis and Coldplay, as confirmed headliners, it also has the Foo Fighters, Queens of the stone age, Feeder and the White stripes as possibles.

So no need for us Anglophiles to travel over the water, the best bands around are coming to our doorsteps (if you live in Staffordshire or Essex that is:laugh: )

The virtual festival website has all the details.

I for one, shall definitely be going (£80 for a weekend/camping ticket)

Anyone got an opinion on which of the two sites is the best and why?

    Btw, I voted for................Btw:smashin:

I guess it depends whether you prefer a more mellow sounding Chillis (as I do, hence why Californication is top of my list) or their more 'grass roots' sound. By The Way seems to mix the old and new sounds more than Californication IMO.

How come nobody's mentioned 'Uplift Mofo Party Plan'?

Don't tell me I'm the only one old enough jumping around in the sixth form to 'Fight Like A Brave' and (the greatest single Chili Peppers song of all time) 'Backwoods'.

You have to love a song with the lyrics:

"Someone spilled blood many years ago
someone spilled blood but do you know
    that from the backwoods
    where the Chuck Berrys grow
    come your long tall
daddies of a rock and roll"

That 'where the Chuck Berrys grow' line is genius!!

When I was in 6th form, we jumped around to the Happy Mondays, the Stone Roses, Depeche Mode etc. I don't recall anyone being into the Chilli Peppers at the time (no one I was friends with anyway). I think you're a few years older than me though Juboy, so that might explain it.

I was the DJ at some of the 6th form end of term 'parties' too :D I got a standing ovation for my mix of EMF's 'Unbelievable' with Soul II Soul's 'Back to Life'

EMF are quite simply the ******* business. Massively overlooked and underated. Saw them live at Gloucester Town Hall and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. They played Unbelievable three times

On the other hand, I hate Soul II Soul with a passion.
