Is it just me or is Metroid very hard?

I've died twice now and only played it for about an hour :(

I hope its one of those games that gets easier with practice otherwise I've no chance of enjoying this...

Its pretty good though and the graphics are truly stunning. It just seems very hard and we get chucked in at the deep end:suicide:

I've played it for about 4 hours it's tricky not hard as such.
But i have just found out that you have to do loads of backtracking. i'm on the snow level can't remember what it's called
but i now have to go back to the first level.
There are no warps so you have to go back through all the levels you've just done & all the enemy will be there.
I think thats just daft & i just hope it's not like that all the way through.

Can anyone who has played this for a while let us know if this is the case.

    (EDIT) I've just read the
Review and that is the case but after reading it.
It make sense to have to do the back tracking.

Backtracking does feature a lot in Prime (I'm not that far through it though), but that has been a part of all the Metroid games really. There are a lot of nods to the previous games in the series, as well as a lot of originality too.

I've moved a bit further onward now and think its brilliant.

I'm used to the controls now (I don't like having to use the L button to sidestep, I'd prefer it to be a seperate button but never mind). The graphics are nothing less than brilliant and the challenge seems just about right now.

You will backtrack a lot, but this helps you in a way to learn the levels and also you get to use a lot of the new weaponry to open up secrets.

It also makes it slightly more tactical as you have to decide which way to backtrack to get there quickly with least resistance.

It does get slightly easier as you get further as you will finally end up with some ridiculous armour and weaponry. Although the end of level baddies get bigger and bigger.

Seriously the best FP game on a console I have played, and I really don't think they could have brought the game into the 3D world any better. Shame it just isn't a little longer :(

no complaints about the length of the game here. I'm at the halfway mark (big boss Omega Pirate) and I've been playing for 19 hours already!

I'm 2 hours into it now and up to 6%...

I'm up to a boss in the Ruins that seems really complicated but I know it isn't:rolleyes:

    (SPOILERS UP TO THIS POINT!!!)

Its the one who shoots fire from 2 arms and you have to shoot the red square on its head. I was doing really well then suddenly got stuck and he killed me within 20 seconds:mad:
10 minutes of playing ruined by 1 tiny, little mistake...:thumbsdow

Oh well, I'll try again and won't make the same mistake:D

Its starting to get a bit easier now. I'm used to the controls and can quickly target several enemies while sidestepping and moving around. It works really well IMO.

Best game I've played this year...

I must say I *hate* the boss battles, especially that huge plant pot with the mirrors. Utterly tedious. The rest of the game is pretty amazing though, amazing graphics and doubly so as there's no slow down (slicker than Halo in that respect).

I love the boos battles, I think they're part of what really makes the game. Opinions, huh?!

I'm really beginning to enjoy Metroid (about 20% in now), after really not liking it that much for the first few hours. In fact, I played about 5 hours and then didn't touch it for about 3 weeks. Really getting into it now though.

I don't think it's too hard. At first maybe it's a little unforgiving, but it's fine once you get used to it.

Oh yeah, and the graphics. The image in progressive scan is absolutely stunning.

I received my copy of MP on Friday thanks to Argos Entertainment (24.99 - I guess the price games really should be) and finally got a chance to play it last night - and I can honsestly say in nearly a quarter of a century of "gaming" this is the best game I've ever played. Yep even better than Zelda OOT. I hope this is not just a quickly dispelled first impression. I can't praise it highly enough - although I concede it does have some slight control issues.

Yeah I agree. But they are so tiny you will either forget about them or learn to master the controls within an hour. Its like something just 'clicks' and you suddenly know exactly how to handle the controls in any situation. I can't remember the last game that had this kind of effect on me (think it was Mario 64 tbh  )

The graphics are still stunning after 3 hours and it will be a long, long time until something this polished comes along IMO

I have to agree the control could be improved by letting you move and look around at the same time. It's a pain having to stop moving to look about. Bah.

I'm 33% done & it's getting better & better:) the graphics are some of the best i have ever seen. it's the little things like how the purple lazer lights the snow up that colour as it goe's across it. how you can see her face on the visor if a bomb goe's off too close & the list could go on for ages.
As for me liking it more than halo IMHO i can't say as their different form each other.
Halo is a straight out FPS, MP is a FPS-adventure- there is a lot more to metroid than halo but both truly awsome games :)

    ****SPOILER****

Head back to the Talon Overworld. There's a half-pipe there which you can boost up to access a new area.

you lot just wait till you get to the Omega Pirate, now that is hard!!

I was fighting against Flaagra (in the Sun Chamber) and turned it off in sheer anger. Why must it be so hard to move and scan at the same time? :(

I know what to do to kill him but it was frustrating me so much that I just switched it off during the final stage of the battle.

    Hooray finally did it

Figured out a way to slow him down enough to shoot the mirrors (although I think it may have been a fluke  )

Ah well I can move on and enjoy the game again. Just explored part of the magmoor caverns and the game is even prettier than before (if that was even possible)

This is seriously one of the best looking games I have ever seen. Then when you chuck in the brilliant gameplay mechanics and (stunning) music and sound, this is easily one of the best games in recent years IMO.

Can't wait to get through it now :)

Yes found most of the halfpipes now, but on the snowy level, where you open the gated door, and morph to go toward a boss battle i presume, but i dont have the powerfull bombs to get past the stones.

dont know how much sense that makes.

I'll give this another blast tonight and hopefully get past the omega pirate, haven't been in the Phlaandra drifts for ages so I can't remember how (or if) I got through that gate.

it's the one where you jump from the cliff onto two suspended rock platforms and then onto the gate entrance right?
