Is the Freeview play better than freesat. Seem to be what I've read about.. cos it's got quest and Dave channels.

Depends what you like! Freesat is picking up more of the stations formerly only on Freeview. But Dave is still a big one. There are more channels on Freesat.

I think that there's now so little to choose between Freeview and Freesat in terms of channels. Dave, Home, Quest and Quest Red have recently joined Freesat (or are in the throes of doing so), so the channel lists are nearly the same. Where Freeview scores is a couple of extra HD channels, for example C4+1HD and 4SevenHD. Decent Freeview and Freesat boxes/TVs have all of the basic catch-up services. I think that where Freesat scores is SD picture quality. To my eyes (and I have rubbish eyesight) SD channels like More4 look better on Freesat than they do Freeview. How much of that is down to equipment I have no idea of gauging. Perhaps the decider is reception: if you can't get a decent Freeview signal then Freesat is your friend, and vice versa.

I think the main difference is Humax terrestrial boxes have more tuners so more recording of different channels

Only the Humax Freeview Play HDR-4000/5000T have more tuners. The others have only two (HDR-FOX-T2, HDR-1800T and HDR-2000T plus the Youview DTR models).

Humax FVP record up to 4 (subject to mux) and watch with live pause on a 5th.

I used to favour Freesat. But, since Channel 4 quit Hi Def transmissions on Freesat and I watch quite a lot of CH 4, I am not so keen on satellite. You might want to consider this factor in your choices.
