I have a JVC HR-J745EK VCR and whilst watching Ice Age via Scart noticed that the bottom 1cm of the screen is skewed to the right. I switched to RF output on the TV and the same 1cm is now all but obscured by a black bar, you can just see the picture behind it.

Are these faults being caused by some sort of copy protection system, and if so is there anything I can do about it.

    Thanks

At a guess, what you are seeing is head switching noise, which is present at the bottom of the image from all VCRs. It should normally be hidden by the overscanning of the TV, and it does typically look like what you describe. I guess your TV isn't overscanning by enough.

    Thanks Nigel

Is there anyway to adjust the TV, also a JVC, via the service menu perhaps?

    TIA

Yes, but I don't know how to get into it. Someone else may be able to help. You will need to quote the model number.
