Hey up. Currently have a 6770, and looking to upgrade and get into pc gaming as fed up of current gen / next gen game prices so have chosen pc gaming as the way forward, I know my current gpu doesn't have the minerals to play like bf3 well and bf4, splinter cell etc so looked at cex and saw an nvidia 660 for a mere £125. Is that a steal of a price and much of an upgrade? Looking at spending no more than £150 or is there a better gpu to look at? I have a phenom 965, and a 850w psu if it matters?
Look forward to all recommendations

Yes you should see a good bump in performance, 660's are retailing for £150 at the moment, the closest thing AMD has to that is the 7850 but is a little slower.

    £125? Good deal.

Not really, unless you get lucky on the forums with a 660ti or 7950, but then your not getting a warranty (unless you can get proof of purchase which should allow you to RMA if needed, not 100% sure on this though).

If you can hold a bit you should be able to get 7950/670 sub £150. I got my msi 670 pe £162 from a recent deal and sold the game for £15 the other day. I think amd will have some move soon as seeing rumour about 9xxx release plus recent stock clearance from the green team. I'd say you should be able to get at least a 660ti for something about £150.

Plus OCUK has some pre order 7950s for £175-190 with loads games. If you bother to sell the games for £30-40 that makes it £150 ish :) good luck

Forgot to say I will be using single monitor only, is the 670 over kill? I'm a noob with gpu and thought you only need massive gfx cards with like multi monitor gaming? I'm confused! I'd rather pay up to £150 rather than pay the extra and try and sell games back on to make money back to lower my initial outlay ...get me?

It won't be overkill since 670 still struggle in some modern titles at 1080p. But generally you are ok with it I single monitor set up. If you are not willing to sell games then 660 would be e best you could get at the moment. I would buy a new one (with proper warranty) rather than some used even cex may give you 12 months. Bare in mind that you will soon find 660 struggle at 1080p if you want eye candy and game alot. I have seen new 660 for <140. So keep your eyes open. If I were you I would try to get the best for 150 with some effort selling 'feebies'. But it is your call anyway.

Overclockers about 1 week ago. It was a pre order deal for non oc version msi 670 power edition. I didn't expect it to oc much as I thought the golden chips are binned for oc version. But it turns out to be a not bad clocker. Btw at the time the oc ones are priced £199 which is a still a decent price but making mine an amazing deal :) so I'd say keep your eyes open and you might find equally good or even better deals. Scan and overclockers had price war recently.

Would my phenom 965 cause a bottleneck playing these games? Am I looking too hard at increasing the gpu and not giving thought to the cpu...?

    Btw it's a c3 140w phenom 965 BE, not the c2 stepping 95w
