My room is 16ft x 25ft and the nearest chair to the tv will be 9ft away. I have decided on the Toshiba 37wlt66 or 42wlt66, but I understand there are optimum / minimum etc viewing distances for TV's.

Will the 42" one be ok or is it too big?

Is 9ft ok or too close for the 37"?

Does anyone know when the t68's ar due out?

Thank you all for your help

My room is very similar in size, also the nearest chair, mine, is about 9' from the TV. I currently have a 32" LCD, which is very acceptable at that distance, but I have the upgrade bug, and I believe a 42" will be OK at that distance. I used to have a 36" CRT, perhaps I should have gone up instead of down when I changed last time.:smashin:

From 9ft away I found a 32" too large, I plan to get a 26". I wouldn't even consider anything larger - it's all a matter of personal preference. Most ppl seem happy with a 32" at 9ft

I have a 32" LCD in my bedroom, and from 8ft away I find it too small for HD sources / Xbox 360. Good for DVDs or SD though.

From 9ft away you'll be fine with 37" for both SD and HD. 42" is definately NOT too big in my opinion. In fact probably perfect for that distance.
I'm about to upgrade to a 40" LCD in my room, as I feel that's about the right size to enjoy HD from 8ft away.

    EDIT: Dug up some figures:

    SD Viewing distances

    27" 6.75 ft
    32" 8 feet
    36" 9 feet
    40" 10 feet
    45" 11.25 feet

    HD Viewing distances

    30" 6.25 feet
    35" 7.3 feet
    40" 8.3 feet
    45" 9.4 feet

    Yup, they are indentical.

Except, that if you're watching an SD source, like regular TV, you might want to sit a bit further back with an LCD, otherwise the picture might be a bit too "honest" :D

I sit 9ft from my 42 viera and it's perfect

You go for anything smaller and you're certain to regret it

Within a couple of weeks the screen will look absolutely "normal" once you're over the initial wow factor

Don't make the mistake others have made big is best

    Absolutely true!

I have a panny 37" plasma, and after 18 months of owning it my wife and I agree that it is now 'too small', and are subsequently in the process of purchasing a 42" version. BTW the room is about 12x25 ft. and we sit about 8 ft from the screen.

I sit 7ft away from my Panny 37" Plasma. Was orginally 6ft but i managed to squeeze out an extra 12 inches whch improved things a bit.

I'm glad I chose the 37" over the 42" as it would simply be too big for all but HD sources (imo).

Then again, my room is only 13 x 13 so i reckon 42" is no problem for a room thats 16x25:smashin:

 Bloomin 'eck are you planning on using binoculars with it too? :D

If you are trying to create a cinema feel then bigger is better IMHO.

I sit 9' away from a 44" screen and it is great with movies :smashin:

When I eventually decide on a HD panel to upgrade to it definitely will not be smaller than 42".

    Go for it!
