IPS vs VA panels for LG televisions and gaming on Series X?

We are in the market for a basic 4k tv and LG is what we want

We are looking at 60 or 65" and will be upgrading the tv mainly due to us getting a Series X console

I just saw that LG only made VA panels with 50 and 70", is this true?


I have never owned an IPS and read they are not as good with dark colors vs the va panel and was worried. But I also have seen a lot of You Tube reviews of LG monitors and a few TV's and people saw the LG IPS panels are right on par with VA panels when talking about blacks and smearing


Can anyone elaborate before I buy a TV?

At certain sizes we know for sure TVs use VA panels since there are no IPS panels in production at those sizes. 60" and 70" are two of those sizes.

The 65" model from LG you have picked out will be using an IPS type panel.

Above is a guide I wrote about determining which panel type you want on a TV, it explains the differences between VA and IPS. As you already mention, VA is generally superior, but it does have worse viewing angles and more motion blur, which in particular can be bad in darker areas of the picture and cause smearing.
