I thinking of getting ether a Ipod Mini 4GB,Ipod Shuffle 1GB or maybe a Rio Carbon Pearl as it got a real good review in the latest what hifi.

Although what i would like to know is do these players support MP3's that are VBR??

As i encode my MP3s using lame 3.90.3 using --alt-preset standard.

According to the specifications from Apple the iPods do support VBR MP3s. I'm sure I've seen a few instances of some people having a few problems with some VBR tracks skipping, but that might be down to the particular application they are using to rip them.
