    Hi

I've just got the 20Gb 4th Gen iPod and I think its great apart from the volume level - I like to play my music loud (yes I know its bad for my ears) but the max volume output on the iPod is somewhat tame for my liking - anyone else think that and are there any firmware updates to allow greater volume?

    Thanks everyone

    WW

I have the same issue with the iRiver IHP 140.

Is there a volume booster for this player as well?

There's a utility called Mp3 Gain which would help you out. Most handy utility as it also allows you to set the gain for all your mp3s to the same level so you don't have to keep fiddling with the volume control.

I have downloaded MP3Gain and am experimenting with it. So far the results are very good. Thanks.

Probably a bit late for you now but you need to import from the US/ Canada. The nanny state that is the EU has decreed that our ears must be protected & has a volume limiter on EU models...I am serious! I imported mine from US & the difference in volume compared to friends' UK models is huge.

What's the situation on warranties when you import? If my US ipod broke down would Apple UK honour it?
