hi everyone. i'm currently contemplating which ipod to get: photo 40 or photo 30. these are the differences between the two that i am aware of:
    - obviously, the capacity
    - with the 40 you get more accessories in the box

    1. does anyone know if there's much of a size difference ?
    2. are there any functions that the newer 30 has that the 40 doesn't? e.g. can you create and save on the go playlists with the 40?
    3. what is the price difference?

    1) Dimensions:
    10.4 x 6.1 x 1.6 (167g) - 30GB
    10.4 x 6.1 x 1.9 (181g)- 40GB

    2) They both have the same functionality.

    3) There is a £30 price difference between the 2. Although for that you get the extra 10gig space plus accessories including dock!

If you can afford it I'd go for the 40 gig. Not only does it have an extra 10gig space, but it also comes with all the accessories (Dock, AV cable, firewire cable etc) that would cost over the £30 difference to buy separately

I think the battery life may be different 8 hours compared to 12
    although I might be wrong

PS John Lewis do the 40G for 269 whereas the 30GB is 249.
Persinally I would choose the 40GB as the accessories do add up to quite a bit.

According to Apple the battery life of both units is the same at 15 hours.

just got the 40 gb ipod photo from john lewis oxford st, theyve got plenty left and your all right, for a few quid more i got the dock, 10gigs and some extra leads free. So get em while you can, by the way after connecting the ipod it needs formatting but this seems to be taking forever, is this normal? I'm too impatient to get going, damn.

Re the long time to format. If this is taking hours rather than minutes then it has probably hung. My 40gig iPOD did the same. I think it was the way I set up. I restarted and everything was fine (I think I ejected with iTunes first). the first time I tried to transfer tracks from iTunes it also took forever. I cancelled what I was doing and then it happened quickly.
