I have just install the Kenwood DNX-5220BT into my vw golf and when i plug in my ipod it just comes up with the do not disconnect sign on my ipod and ipod disconnect displayed on the head unit.

I have tried friends more modern ipods and they all work fine.

In the kenwood manual it says that it is compatible with ipod classic etc.

My ipod is a colour 20GB model PA079B running the latest 1.2.1 software for this ipod.

I do run this ipod with a kenwood interface in another car which works fine?

Does anyone have any thoughts?

As far as I understand Ipod compatibilty is entirely cable related. Which cable have you got. My unit works beautifully with the Ip300V cable and the Ipod nano (the latest one) as well as the IPhone. But it refuses to work with the old classic Ipod 40gb and the Ipod Nano - Second generation plays but no screen display or controls are enabled. I believe the older other cables are needed to make these models work. I am very very happy, infact have foudn this to be the best feature of the 8220 (the ipod playback)

Found out from Kenwood that I my 2005 ipod colour won't work as it is too old, and that no different cable will help, bugger!

Oh well I'll just have to buy a shiny new ipod.

Thanks for the advice.
